BackgroundThe frequency and intensity of disasters have been on the rise, posing significant threats to communities and societies. Effective disaster risk management is essential to mitigate the impact of disasters and build resilience. In today’s interconnected world, the value of knowledge management in disaster preparedness, response, and recovery is important. Effective knowledge management can help organizations and communities learn from past experiences, share best practices, and make informed decisions in DRR strategies. This talk show aims to explore the significance of knowledge management in disaster risk management and how it can enhance sustainable development.

CARI! is an Indonesian-based social enterprise and foundation founded in 2019 that has been providing end-to-end knowledge management services in disaster management and climate actions in Indonesia and the Southeast Asian region. The enterprise established in-house technologies that constructed CARI! machine-assisted, web, and spatial-based search engine harvesting disaster-related science about Indonesia (https://knowledge.caribencana.id/). CARI! also combines data science and social sciences to produce a monthly Indonesia Disaster Knowledge Update (IDKU) that shows potential, gaps, and prospects in disaster and climate action knowledge production and utilization.
